What Is An Unhealthy Dose Of Social Media?

Moderation in all things.

Today we have become very dependent on technology, specifically our phones. In my experience, this has proven to be a blessing and a curse. Although the advancements in technology are undeniable the dependency displayed most prominently in younger generations, who have grown up in the digital age, is concerning. So here is a brief synopsis of what I think is an unhealthy dose of social media.

Because of the norm that instant gratification plays in our lives, we have become impatient. Impatient to put the time to create a real loving relationship. We can simply swipe right and find a date. Why work hard to build the skills we need when computers can complete the project for us?

The technology alternatives often completes the task but will leave you with an overall lack of fulfillment. Because as humans after going through something that takes time and effort we earn that sense of accomplishment.

I find it extremely ironic that social media, in reality, makes us less prepared to be social and in many cases is actually harming our relationships. There is a proven higher depression rate experienced by those who spend more time on Facebook than those who don’t.

If you are someone who looks at your phone before saying good morning to the person sleeping next to you, that is an unhealthy use of social media. If you physically feel anxiety when you put your phone down that is an unhealthy use of social media. If you feel like your life is worse because of someone else, that is an unhealthy use of social media.
