Do what you love.
Frequently given advice that is infrequently followed.
Recently I was talking to a friend and we ended up talking about her office job. She was not enthusiastic about the job but seemed largely indifferent to maintaining it. Although it provided a decent income it didn’t align with her interests.
At this job, there is a dress code that regulates your hair color to be limited to natural colors.
She dismissed this rule and colored her hair orange. Now why anyone would color their hair orange, to begin with, is already beyond me. To add to the situation that this poor taste in color also meant violating her job guidlines almost blew me out of the Milky Way Galaxy.
Although she hasn’t lost her job, yet, here’s a thought. If your desire to have your hair an unnatural color is greater than your love for your job, quit.
Doing something you don’t love is a tremendous waste of your time. Especially if you dislike your job enough to put it in jeopardy by coloring your hair. If you are in a similar situation where you dislike your job enough to risk losing it by coloring your hair, I feel it’s a reasonable presumption to observe two things.
- You won’t be working your hardest or best at your current job.
- You’d rather be doing something that you’re skill at and this alternative use would probably be a better use of your time.
Now the percentage of people who want to color their hair orange more than they want to keep their job is probably very slim.
But how many people are unsatisfied, aggravated even, with their current job and do nothing about it? That doesn’t have to be you.
