Recently I’ve been studying the impacts social media has.
The impact it has on your relationships.
The impact it has on your time.
The impact it has on your priorities.
My studies have led me down a variety of paths but all seem to converge around the common idea that too much time spent on social media is a bad thing.
Deciding what too much time spent on social media look like for you is a limit that each of us should set. Without a limit, you are much more likely to spend enormous amounts of time on social media almost unconsciously. Personally, I’ve decided that to limit my use of social media I’m going to get an alarm clock.
The benefits of getting an alarm clock are:
- Eliminates Temptation
When the first thing you do in the morning is turn off your alarm, which doubles as your phone, the probability that you immediately check your social media is extremely high. These precious morning moments are poured into an investment with a low return.
Getting an alarm clock will eliminate getting on my phone as the first thing I do in the morning. Which opens the opportunity for me to do something else with my time.
2. Better Sleep
When phones are present in the same room you sleep in they actually make your sleep less restful. “Research has found that exposure to blue light suppresses the production of melatonin more than any other type of light. It is believed that the shorter wavelengths in blue light is what causes the body to produce less melatonin because the body is more sensitive to this type of light” found by Live Science.
In addition, when my phone isn’t in my room I won’t turn to get on it when I’m restless.
Overall the case to invest in an alarm clock has won me over. Expect a comprehensive review of this experiment in the near future.
