Solving the Homeless Epidemic: Poverty

Another driving factor of homelessness is poverty.

(3) poverty,

Poverty is often correlated to jobs. And job availability often determines peoples quality of life.

The minimum wage restricts the number and types of jobs available. Therefore decreasing the quality of life available to many, who are now left to struggle with homelessness.

Additionally, the minimum wage can keep many from ever getting near the threshold for entry-level jobs. Therefore leading many to alternative sources of income involving drugs and crime.

Raising wages by force, through government regulations, above what the free market would dictate, limits job availability. It decrees absolutely, that some will not be hired who wish to be hired because the starting wage is above what their work is worth. This is especially unfortunate because those affected most by a minimum wage are those who are often young, uneducated and under qualified.

A good example of this would be a man whose skill set justifies a wage of $5 or $6 per hour. But because the law states that it would be illegal to employ him for what his work is worth he will remain unemployed.

The minimum wage increased unemployment and increased poverty.

The minimum wage causes totally unnecessary and permanent unemployment for countless thousands of would-be workers. The limitation of personal freedom to choose what jobs they want destroyed personal freedom and countless opportunities for wealth creation.
