Beyond the resume.

On a 1-10 scale, how comprehensive of an understanding does a potential employer have of your skills and abilities after reading your resume? (Assuming they read and didn’t just take a quick 10-second scan of your resume)

I’d be surprised if you said anything above a 5.

The truth of the matter is that resumes simply do NOT clearly communicate why you should be hired.

A resume does not communicate whether you can do the job well.

A resume does not communicate whether you have a passion for the company.

A resume does not communicate your interest in the job.

However, a resume is good at displaying a lot of fluff.

There are plenty of awards, accomplishments, and extracurriculars listed on resumes that have little positive influence on the likelihood of you getting the job.

You know what beats the resume every day of the week?

Showing your work.
