It’s truly a priceless treasure to spend time with your family.
I’m currently in Utah visiting my family and I am soaking in every minute of it.
Something I’ve been doing to take advantage of this time is to catch up and learn about developing interests, todays subject my 15-year-old brother.
I set up an interview and asked him questions from James Walpoles’ blog post on questions he asks successful people. Besides being flatter that I was calling him successful, he had some great insights to share.
What is one piece of conventional advice that you disagree with most strongly?
Shoot for the moon and you’ll land among the stars. I think it encourages mediocrity. If you don’t achieve your goal be content that you’re still around the general target.
What was your biggest mistake? What helped you to identify it? What helped you to get over it?
Not taking advantage of opportunities, not approaching people who I could learn from because I had self doubt.
What is your biggest weakness? What helped you to identify it? What helps you to get over it?
Not being efficient in the way I accomplish things, setting goals and not following through.
What do you do to gain self-awareness when everyone is out to flatter you?
I first accept the compliment and then compliment them. It’s very important to accept compliments because refusal or dismissal is overplayed and disingenuine.
How did you find your definition of success? What is it?
I define success as constantly continuing, regardless of the pace you are going just that you continue the pace.
After speaking more about his definition of success I noticed that it was primarily composed of successfully challenging himself to try new things. So I took this moment to challenge him.
Stephen, will you take up the month-long challenge of blogging every day starting July 1st?
The first excuse he made was “I don’t have a website” so I swooped in a built him one. Although a small step, I see a fruitful direction ahead. I’m excited to see what comes of this new challenge and if Stephen will pursue his definition of success.
