“If you can’t say no to what you don’t want, you will never have time to focus on what you do want.”
The above quote is from a great TEDx talk by Isabelle Mercier. She addresses the power of saying no to worry and stress and instead adopting peace of mind.
You can let your mind tear you and your aspirations to shreds or build a foundation to continue growing and unlocking your potential.
This dynamic of managing your thoughts is likely something you’ve struggled with. The key in mastery is held within the first three words of that sentence, “you can let.”
You can let yourself beat around the bush and pretend that if you don’t address your problems and doubts that they won’t find you.
However, the things you don’t want you must actively say no to avoid them.
If you aren’t actively saying no, you’re very likely tolerating what you don’t want and worrying about it.
Be purposeful with your no.
Here are 3 ways to increase your quality of life by use the power of no:
- Say no to worry. To truly say no to worry face it. We can’t hide it, bury it and try to keep it away from the light. Say no to worry by coming face to face with it. Worry is concern gone bad. To address your concerns, identify the problem and map out a solution, of next steps you can take right NOW.
- Say no to extremes. Saying no to extremes, either thinking or saying them, will allow you to choose a peaceful mindset.
- Say no with your actions. Be committed. In order to achieve your goals, you must be willing to say no to distractions. Say no with your actions and what is pulling you away from the goal.
Start saying yes to what you want, by exercising the power of no.
