Cold Calling Flower Shops Pt. 2

There’s opportunity out there – and it’s yours for the taking.

I love thinking about big ideas, especially those I could do right now.

Last week an idea occurred to me that I wasn’t able to shake, and I knew I needed to take action.

Handing out flowers is one of my favorite past times – so what if I pitched to flower shops and got them to sponsor this activity?

It was that simple.

Now the golden part was this is literally something I could take action on right now.

And like many thins, whether you do or don’t is often completely up to you.

So after my experience cold calling flower shops, I decided it was time to go in person and pitch. Luckily in San Francisco, there are quite a few flower shops so there were a variety to choose from.

I walked to the one closest to my work and used the same pitch as before.

The owner of the flower shop was so so sweet, however, she already was committed to giving any leftover flowers to an elderly home every Friday.

But thankfully that’s not where the story ends. She referred a good flower friend of hers who she said had a high likelihood of having some flowers to support my cause.

She pulled out a slip of paper and wrote down his name and number.

Before I left, I asked if she had any feedback on my pitch – like any savvy business women what follows is something we can all learn from.

Framing matters. Don’t ask for free stuff – ask for what they are throwing away, what they aren’t using, no one likes to be asked to give anything away for free.

Your next carzy idea is an opportunity. Put it’s up to you to put yourself out there and see what happens when you ask.
