How often do we bind ourselves to nonbeneficial contracts?
You may think not often.
However, I think you may be surprised.
A desire is a contract you make with yourself to be unhappy until you get what you want.
This quote comes from a now-extinct blog called Delusion Damage, but I first read it in “Tools of Titans by Tim Ferris in his interview with Naval Ravikant the CEO and co-founder of AngelList.
I don’t think most of us realize that.
I think we go about desiring things all day long – and then wondering why we are unhappy.
To be aware of these self-constraining contracts is difficult. But to choose your decisions very carefully. I think that is an important one.
