The belief that your happiness or satisfaction should be based on the foundation of what others have is a preposterous and flat-out destructive belief.
I think you would be hard pressed to identify someone who after hearing the above statement wouldn’t agree.
Then why do we so frequently act in contradiction to it?
I think often it is because we haven’t clearly identified that we are even holding to this false belief in the first place.
After all, the first step to solving a problem is to identify it.
Clearly spelled out:
When we compare and find we have less we feel bad.
When we compare and find we have more we feel good.
Both of these feelings are based on things outside of our control.

To replace this false belief identify other things to base your happiness on.
