How often do you hear someone say “I’m looking for service opportunities, maybe volunteering at a soup kitchen? I’m just really trying to get involved”?
Meanwhile, their yard needs work, they have broken relationships and numerous piles of both virtual and literal dirty dishes?
Now, take a moment to reflect, are there any dirty dishes in your life?
And more importantly, are we overlooking those dirty dishes in hopes of finding someone else’s to clean that might be easier or make us appear better than doing our own?
How often are we seeking service opportunities elsewhere and overlooking the multitude of opportunities right in front of us?
Let me identify some easy acts of service I’m sure you can accomplish this week:
Taking out the trash. (Dual functionality, can be achieved at either work or home.)
Offering to get anyone water. (Applicable always)
If you have a roommate you automatically have a ton of opportunity to serve. (Bonus points if they’re extra messy, which really just equals extra opportunities.)
Stop looking for service opportunities outside of your circle and start applying yourself to one of the many opportunities immediately available.
This is a great habit to develop, and as is often the case, a personal reminder to stop looking for what is already right in front of you.
