A Chain Reaction

By offering to help others you in turn receive help.

Now it might not be in the way you anticipated but it is help none the less.

A recent interest of mine,  for the past 3 months, has been to increase my ability to communicate with others in a way that makes them feel listened to & empowered, becoming increasingly comfortable with addressing moments where I feel minimized, presenting feedback in a way that is most positively received.

In this active pursuit to become a better communicator, and simultaneously a better listener, I’ve had some interesting events take place I have:

  • Come to read and understand more about the psychology behind communicating and what a vast part listening takes part in that.
  • Become more routinely aware of some of my own weaknesses (this is quite valuable)
  • But most impactful, I’ve been able to become a resource for others to improve their own communication.

This last benefit is most impactful because it’s something I didn’t plan on, something that routinely makes be better because it forces me to give advice that I’m often not following, and also reminds me from a different perspective of why it’s so important.

This pursuit was driven purely by my own selfish desire to become a better communicator but in turn, I was able to be of help, in a small way, to others.

To practice what you learn in a hands-on environment is awesome, but to explain and help others do the same is truly where you start the journey to mastery,  a long road ahead.
