Why It’s Important to Choose Your Heros

Heros are people who in some way help you become better.

Given that this is a very broad definition, it’s important you get specific on how that hero helps you become a better version of yourself.

You may define a hero as someone who inspires you while I define a hero is someone who can make me laugh.

A personal hero should be defined based on your needs from that hero.

For me, a hero is someone that challenges and encourages me through their example or insight. As well as provides knowledge and information that changes my perspective as well as identifies gaps in my thinking to push me to grow.

Their feedback and insight doesn’t have to be given as if it was delivered to me alone or even particularly in mind, I just have to be aware of what pieces I’m looking for so when I hear them I can grab them.

And if that is the case, if it simply a matter of a) identifying what you need from a hero and b) being aware of when the things you need appear – then you can find hero qualities in anyone.

But there is a lot of insight that people are often all too willing to bestow upon you. So it’s important to choose what advice and feedback you listen to, because that’s what’s going to influence you.  Leadership can often be less about the specific person and more about the actions, ideas and needs that they can spark to make you become a better person.
