I’d like to start a company at some point.
Actually, let me rephrase.
I will start a company at some point.
One important element that I’m considering when thinking about a company is it’s culture.
Inspired by Ray Dalio’s “Principles” I’ve been thinking a lot about what principles I live by as well as what principles I would like a future company to hold. (And when I say a company I really mean it’s people.)
I have a couple principles that I live my life by, but what would I want the people I work with to be known by?
To be honest, I’m not sure.
I have a general idea but I’m sure this will be refined and change drastically over time.
I want my employees to believe in the value of their work, feel trusted, know that it’s ok to fail but unacceptable not to learn from their mistakes, care about people (because we don’t need more smart people who don’t care about other people), be filled with curiosity.
Because it is up to the individual, and the individual alone, to choose their attitude I think hiring people that fit within your culture is most important.
Then considering how you are going to facilitate a culture and user experience that supports that.
