Building A Company Is Playing The Long Game

The average age of a startup at an exit is 8-10 years.

That’s over half of my life.

My point, that’s a long time.

Eventually, if the average age of a startup at exit is 8-10 years, the active duty period of founders (if not replaced in the meantime) extends even more. Better love the problem you’re solving, and your customers!

The conclusion I draw from the above is that your why is really important.

Know your why and determine if it’s going to fit with your why. If your why is to make a lot of money, you can make a lot of money in ways that are far more assured, less work intensive and certainly could be more enjoyable.

A startup has a lot of risk, a lot of work, and a lot of unknown.

It’s definitely a long game.
