I’m currently in Chicago to attend EDUCAUSE, whose mission is “to advance higher education through the use of information technology.”
(This is a part two of “Qualities Of A Quality Conference.”)
Conferences, specifically when you’re an exhibitor or vendor, can be a black box because it’s very difficult to evaluate a solid ROI.
Four things I learned:
- Emphasize the unique. Being in person with your customers. It is a good way to do things that you can’t do virtually, establish real connections with them. Charm and be personable with them.
- First hand hear about their problems and what life is like in their role.
- While you’re in front of that person, get your calendars out and schedule something. Take notes, but in a structured way, what the problem was and a fun fact that you couldn’t find my looking at their LinkedIn. (I also tried sending a follow up email day of but got no replies)
- BE FRIENDLY. People want to be welcomed, pursued, “Good morning” “How are you?” “What are you trying to accomplish at the conference today?”
Until the next conference.
