Koh Tao

Having snorkeled before, I entered the water confidently, but soon water seeped into my goggles.

While adjusting them, I unintentionally took in saltwater, turning my refreshing exploration into a burning sinus safari.

At that time the heavens decided to join in on the mockery and a strong rain fell down.

Choppy water led to a few briny mouthfuls, and as I restored my mouthpiece, each breath felt ragged.

I could not stop the short breaths and exhaled.

This was a state of panic.

And if I was panicking on the surface snorkeling, what trust did I have that composure would be found at 18 meters, with considerably graver consequences.
