Cambodia Guide

In my circles, I rarely heard about Cambodia. When I visited, I was delightfully surprised by the vibrance of the culture, dedication to Buddhism, and the general bustling environment.

Activities

  • Phnom Penh Night Market: Fantastic. I had never been to a night market like this before. Tons of blankets where people are eating and conversing sitting on the ground.
  • National Museum of Cambodia: Besides the shady lady at the admissions office, who I’m convinced purposefully returned the wrong change, and the complete lack of descriptions and context for the art, I can firmly say the best thing about this museum was the awesome red building itself.
  • Take the Chroy Changvar Ferry: It costs less than $1 USD and is such an experience. Try to go at sunset!
  • Independence Monument: One of the more memorable monuments I’ve seen.
  • Phnom Penh River View Hotel: Although we did not stay at this hotel, right in front of the hotel, there is a park with ping pong tables.
  • National Palace: Super cool, they have strange hours so double-check that before, but an incredible experience. Plus, the royal family still lives there!
  • Russian Market / Toul Tom Poung Market: I think I missed the Russian influence when I visited here, but we had some incredible frog legs (unreal, they were so good), balut, and fried chicken!

Wats (Temples)

There are enough wats in Cambodia to fill months, but here are a few of my favorites.

  • Wat Phnom Daun Penh: Huge and has a really nice art center right next to it that’s included in the admission. Also surrounded by hundreds of bats that fly around in the area.
  • Wat Langka: I just love the structure of this wat. So simple and clean.
  • Wat Ounalom: This wat has so many cool little wats around it.
  • Golden Temple – Wat Kean Kleang: Definitely a lesser-known destination; it’s kinda obscure in its location, but this temple had some of my favorite art.

Eats

  • Kinin: Asian, Cambodian, American cuisine. Not a place you’ll be blown away by.
  • 126 The Noodle Factory: Everything we got here was amazing. The soup, chicken, rice, pork.
  • Soft Drinks House 36: This is a stand either right next to the above or near it. They serve the BEST mango smoothies I’ve ever had. Literally went there multiple times a day.

Future Visit

  • Angkor Wat
