Perth Australia Guide

Deciding to go down under?

You’ve got Vegemite, pavlova, capsicums, aubergine, “far out”, “how ya going”, and other Australianisms waiting for you.

Sights

  • Cottesloe – Charming beach, right next to the city so frequently crowded. Nice buoy to swim out to which you can jump off.
  • Fremantle prison – Interesting historical cornerstone of Western Australia, and its surprising roots in prisoner labor.
  • Lancelin dunes – Lovely pristine white sand dunes.
  • Guilderton – Better for a lake day than to explore the dunes. Bring a kayak, inflatable, and a soft ball.
  • Elizabeth Quay – Cute area to walk around, nice bridge.
  • Clayton’s beach – Sparsely attended, water is more rough compared to Rottnest beaches.
  • Kings park – An absolute must for Perth. Fantastic spread of natural beauty.
  • London court books – The street this store is on is the notable thing to me. It was so cute with its European nods, crests visible and random bodies of armor.
  • United church – If you find yourself in Gingin shire, you’ll find a wonderful body of believers here.
  • St. Georges Cathedral – Absolutely stunning building.
  • Rottnest island
    • Pinky’s beach to snorkel.
    • Bike around the island & book a bike along with your ferry ticket to avoid the hassle. (I left from shed b/e, which has a cheaper rate.)
    • Visit Wadjemup lighthouse.
    • Find some quokkas.
    • Finish by taking Parker point road back to the ferry port.

Food

  • Bunn mee – Unhinged eggplant dish, in a good way if that wasn’t clear. Everything else was okay (lemongrass pork shoulder, fried prawns, curry) but nothing to write home about.
  • North street store – This bakery is crazy!!! One of those gems that you’re so happy to find once you discover it. Tends to be very busy.
  • Dine by Arrival Hall – Didn’t love the food here but maybe I just ordered the wrong thing, kimchi pork belly toast. Friends got the cold udon and liked it.
  • Finlay & Sons – Incredible hash browns as an English muffin alternative for their eggs Benedict.
  • Art gallery of Western Australia – Free art gallery in a cool building with aboriginal art? Yes please.
  • Miller + Baker – One of the best sandwiches I may have ever had.
  • Gelato Messina – This was so enjoyable. Fantastic spread of flavors and all made in house.

Future

  • Pinnaroo valley memorial park
  • Sherbet cafe & bake shop
  • Perth zoo
  • Fremantle markets
