Zurich
Eats
- Zum Kropf – Their Rösti and mushrooms with cream sauce were surprisingly below average.
- Felix Café am Bellevue – Apple strudel, served with vanilla ice cream and vanilla cream sauce, okay.
- Victoria Brezelbäckerei – I got their tomato and mozzarella pretzel. Good idea, but the execution was lacking. The salt clusters were huge, and the pretzel had no body; it was too limp from the tomato juice.
- Margheri – Randomly had the best margherita pizza of my life here, and this was coming off of my time in Italy too. The bruschetta was bruschetta, not worth the 23 francs or whatever outrageous price I ended up paying for it.
Activities
- Boat ride on Zurich Lake
- Grossmünster – Another day, another church.
- Swiss National Museum – Incredible collections of Swiss items. Super interactive and one of the best collections of postcard offerings I’ve seen ever.
- Visit Freitag HQ – Such a cool startup and their space is in these shipping containers which I found to be really cool.
- The Pie Shop – There are a lot of cool shops under this tunnel to explore.
- Train to the highest point in Zurich, Uetliberg.
Lucerne
Activities
- Chapel Bridge – This bridge has quite a famous reputation, although most people don’t know this is in Lucerne.
- Lake Lucerne Boat Ride – This boat ride was the most memorable for me, and I did three of them while in Switzerland. The mountains surrounding the lake are absolutely incredible.
- Jesuitenkirche Hl. Franz Xaver Church – Lovely. Bright white interior with pink detailing.
- The Lion Monument – Tribute to Swiss mercenaries, surprisingly cool.
- Bourbaki Panorama – Interesting history here, not a must see but if you’re in the area.
Eats
- Pfistern – Best Rösti and brat I had in Switzerland!
- Kalte Lust – Amazing passion fruit gelato.
Basel
Eats
- Confiserie Schiesser – Solid place to get some coffee and baked goods.
- Zum Isaak – Not my favorite, I got their beef and turnip special.
Sights
- Basel Munster – Interesting church to walk around with colored roof tiles.
- Rathaus des Kantons Basel-Stadt – City building with interesting old art. Also the irony of city buildings being called “Rathaus”…
- Cross the River Rhine on a boat.
Disentis
- Go here and go hiking. That is all.
Future
- Next time I’m in Switzerland I want to do a ton of hiking, visit more art museums in Basel, and eat a ton more milk chocolate.
