Amish Country

In Holmes County, Ohio, you can experience what feels like a different country.

You’ll drive on gently rolling roads through beautiful farmland, where borrowing a cup of sugar from the neighbor requires a good 5-minute walk.

As you drive, you’ll start to see a few bikers—not your typical road bikers, but ones wearing reflective vests, going 35 mph on electric-assisted bikes, with satchels on the back for various goods.

And as you continue, you’ll see a buggy, the kind drawn by a horse.

The clip-clop of hooves on pavement is quite delightful.

There’s a general store filled with apple turnovers, blackberry ice cream, fresh produce, and lots of homemade goods.

That’s a taste of what you and four million other tourists get to see when you visit Amish country.
