Many of the richest people in the history of the world, were very poor at some point. For example, John D. Rockefeller was born into what many would call unfortunate circumstances. His home, if you could even call it a home, was a place with little to no financial stability, no parental leadership, no connections, a lack of education and hardly anything in the way of “resources”. However, Rockefeller was able to become one of the wealthiest individuals in recent history. Why? Because he chose to not let his circumstance define him.
As you read this in your office, laying on the sofa in your living room, sprawled on your bed, on a computer at the library, it is possible that you have not achieved everything you want to. That there are still unfinished goals, plans you have for the future, and adventures you want to take. Are you justifying your lack of action by your circumstance? If so stop. Your current situation is not permanent and circumstance is not your master. If you view the world through the lens of your current circumstances you will act accordingly. When focused on the fact that you hate your job, or don’t have the job you want, you tend to completely lose sight of what you do want.
Here’s the truth, you may not be in control of the current circumstance, but you are in complete control of choosing to take action to change your circumstance. That’s where you actually have a choice.
Using your ability to choose is vital because it means you never have to accept the reality that others try to make for you. The power to choose doesn’t wait, it extinguishes a sense of justification that something needs to happen before you can take action.
Every person no matter how rich or poor is going to go through unpleasantries, some worse than others, but regardless of your social status everyone gets out of those bad circumstances the same way, they choose to. No one else can make that decision for you. In this moment, you have THE best tool to change your circumstance. It isn’t reliant on your friend’s opinions of you, it is NOT dependent on your financial stability. Your circumstance is not determined by the car you drive, how many figures you have in the bank, who your friends are, or whether you are verified on twitter. It’s not the Harvard Law Degree that makes someone’s circumstance, there are plenty of graduates who are depressed, lonely and feel powerless to their circumstance. It’s not having a lot of money that equals a good circumstance. The successful are not those born into wealthy families, they are the people that choose to take action and change their circumstance. The tool you will always have that has the biggest impact on your circumstance is your ability to choose and take action.
