How Much Do You Let Your Environment Affect You?

It’s not where I am, it’s who I am.

Although this principle generally remains true it’s important to acknowledge how your environment affects you.

Everyone has there preferences, their state of flow, their ideal environment. In contrast, many can identify environments they don’t enjoy.

I for one, don’t enjoy humidity, lots of rain, and a stifling small-town vibe. That being said I know my preferences and I also know that if necessary I could prevail.

You are more important than your environment.

However, I do not advocate, nor do I believe that you can’t live in denial or ignorance of the effects of your environment.

You must acknowledge what undeniable effects occur and pivot.

Being in touch with what exactly makes you unhappy with an environment is the first step to solve it.

Additionally, decide that through the undeniable circumstances if that’s living in a humid and rainy town or not, that you can and will persevere.

In the end, it’s more important to invest in being the person you want to be, no environment can truly take that from you.

Some of my favorite heroes, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Jackie RobinsonJames Stockdale all showed that.

I would love it if you expanded on thus concept and included social or relational environments. Tendencies of others that make you uncomfortable. Understanding a different culture ( not necessarily ethnic but just the variations of culture between families) and how that can affect and even limit you in different environments. Advice appreciated!
