If you have a good idea – having it understood by as many people as possible is in your best interest.
Now I’m a fan of using big words, dichotomy and non sequitur are just a few of my favorites.
However there is undeniable value in keeping things simple, and cutting the fluff.
Two great ways to do this are:
- Trying to cut your word count in half.
- Rethinking the use of fluffy slang like “optimize” and “seamless,” which provide extremely general best practice, but no real specific value.
(What does optimize even mean at this point?)
Whether you use an elaborate dictionary or not, I challenge you to use words that carry your idea clearly.
YES! Concision in writing is rare, and makes writing so much more powerful. It usually requires a brainstorm session with a lot more text, but it’s worth it.
