I don’t care.
I don’t care if your job is to be a doorman, a lobbyist, a receptionist, a security guard, a uber driver, a cashier, a sales associate, a professor, a writer, a journalist, or a lawyer.
This isn’t because I have no interest in how you spend your time or if you find your job fulfilling (I think loving your job is really important) but rather, I don’t think you or I should care very much about your occupation when it comes to one thing.
Doing whatever job you have, excellently.
Hating your current job doesn’t change the fact that you currently have it.
Doing a poor job a) decreases the likelihood of you getting promoted into a different role b) being recruited for another job you’d prefer and c) provides absolutely no positive value to yourself.
So do your best to be: not good, not okay, not above average, but excellent at your job.
A lot of people in positions ranging from entry-level to executive can forget the power in doing your job excellently.
Working with excellence or not in an entry-level position tells more about you than the job.
