What I’m Afraid The U.S. Is Missing

“The United States has too much freedom.”

This comment was made by a friend who is currently living in Shanghai when discussing the exponential climb in number of COVID-19 cases in the U.S.

Some additional context, in Shanghai the government currently mandates specific apps to track your activity to enforce social distancing.

However, they’ve also managed to flatten their curve.

Is she right, does the United States have too much freedom?

I would argue the problem is not too much freedom, but rather the abuse of the freedom.

In short we lack liberty, which is morality + freedom.

In order to have freedom you need a responsible and moral people.

I fear we lack this.
