Discomfort, one of the first words I associate with giving feedback.
To minimize your discomfort, here’s a framework specifically to give feedback to someone you lead.
- Ask: “Can I give you some feedback?”
- Describe the behavior
- Describe the impact
- Ask for change
Example: Can I give you some feedback? When you consistently interrupt other team mates, it prevents me from understanding their suggestions. Can you not interrupt others in the future?
Remember, the goal of feedback is to see behavior change.
