How The Game Taboo Makes You A Better Communicator

Taboo is a word association game.

A word is displayed at the top of a card with various off limit words beneath it.

Your goal is to get your team to guess the word displayed at the top.

After a few rounds you quickly realize:

Shared experiences make it easier for your team to guess correctly.

Understanding the unique mental frameworks of your team, and how they differ from yours, is imperative.

Strategically using contrast, if the word was high you might say “Not low but ____” to get them on the right track is helpful.

We become better writers, friends, communicators when we consider the mental models of those around us and how we position our information with that information in mind.
