Do you know how I can tell a great data scientist from a good data scientist?
I ask them what they do on the weekends.
If they mention an ancillary project to data science, consuming information about the field, personal projects, etc. they have the potential to be great.
That’s the lens through which corporate America’s leadership looks.
If that image doesn’t represent you, is that level of investment one which would be taking a step closer to the person / goals you want?
If not, maybe it’s a sign to change fields where you find yourself exploring it on the weekends.
Or alternatively, maybe it aligns with your lifestyle preference to simply be good.
In the end, you’re determining your own definition of success and it maybe it’s good.
