A charming, sleepy version of Paris where your grandparents live.
One of my highlights from staying in Vienna was the hostel that I stayed at: Hostel Ruthensteiner. They curate a great community vibe with daily pay-what-you-wish dinners and lots of events curated events for guests.
Activities
- Schönbrunn Palace
- They have really nice grounds featuring a bird cage, which was kind of cool.
- Stadtpark
- I had a nice picnic at this park. It’s a little strange because it’s so segmented: there are little patches of grass surrounded by asphalt walkways, and there’s a canal running through the park, but it’s kind of cool.
- St. Stephen’s Cathedral
- Incredible, beautiful interior, very cool wrapping staircase. Beautiful, beautiful exterior. Super nice.
- Peterskirche
- This part of town is just immaculate. There are beautiful buildings at every turn.
- Hofburg Vienna
- A very somber spot where you can see the same balcony where Hitler delivered his address in Vienna.
- Swim in the Danube River
- Specifically the Dragonerhäufel spot!
Eats
- Tesla Coffee & Concept
- I got their charcuterie board, which had a great spread of meat, cheese, really good soft feta, a whole jar of jam, fantastic bread, and an ample amount of butter. Would recommend.
- Die Pferdefleischerei Gumprecht, Filiale Friedensbrücke.
- I found this deli on Reddit because I was looking for the best leberkässemmel, and it was so cute. They’re cash only, but pretty good — not outstanding, but pretty good.
