All of us should be trying to inject some creativity into our lives and work.
However, creativity is not thinking of original ideas.
Because there is no such thing as originality.
“What is originality? Undetected plagiarism.”-William Ralph Inge
The idea that there is nothing truly original can seem discouraging. How can I create something amazing if someone else has done it before?
French artist Andre Gide seems to answer this question when he says “Everything that needs to be said has already been said. But, since no one was listening, everything must be said again.
The ideas you have, although a mashup or rearranged version of a previous idea, still holds a message that needs to be heard.
When we are truly creative it is often when we see the work of others and become inspired by it. In many ways, I think what was created inspires what will be created.
I encourage you to not be daunted by the past but let it shape the future.
Surround your thoughts and conversations with people and ideas that inspire you. The actions of those in the past provide the greatest encouragement to continue to create.
