How To Write Company Values (Hint: They Should Be Habits)

Values should be written as verbs because you want people to do them. – Simon Sinek

It’s a little hard to walk into someones office and say, “A little more excellence today, okay?”

Consider, how do you define “excellence”?

In a delightfully serendipitous fashion this coincides so well with one of my favorite books, the book that opened me to the world of self help, 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.

With timeless pieces of wisdom like: seek first to understand than be understood, etc.

Now consider an example where you’re in a weekly one-on-one meeting and you ask your manager, “How can I improve my ability to solve problems with clients?” and she says “Seek first to understand, then be understood.”

If more one-on-one meetings went like that, the world would be a better place.

Talk about a succinct and straightforward value that your employees can act on!

Make your company values not just a verb but a habit. Now that would be next level!
